Frequently Asked Questions About Intake

  • Our goal is for you to have the best care possible. The intake process involves you providing some information about your concern so that we can make sure that Ontario Sex Therapy is the right place for you. This information is also used to match you with a clinician. There are two options to start the intake process. Intake can be done online, via the intake survey, or by phone with our intake team. Please use whichever intake option best suites you!

  • Yes, the intake process is confidential. The online intake survey is hosted by a secure platform, and we conduct phone consults in a private space where others cannot hear the information being discussed. In order to match you with the best therapist for your needs, information gathered is shared with the clinic director, Dr. Morag Yule, and sometimes with potential clinician(s).

All information is confidential and treated with your privacy in mind, aside from common exceptions to confidentiality encountered within the health care and therapeutic context, such as (but not limited to) disclosures related to imminent harm to yourself or others, or imminent danger to or ongoing abuse involving a child.

  • Not all therapists are trained in working with all client concerns. Our main goal is to make sure that you are connected to the best care possible. The information we gather during the intake process will allow us to make sure that the clinic is the right fit for you, and to connect you to a therapist that can help with your specific concern.

  • It's up to you! We have a set of standard questions that are asked during the intake process. It is helpful to have as much information as possible, but we understand the sensitive nature of talking about sexuality, so if there is something you don't feel comfortable sharing at this stage, that's ok. Generally, a broad description of the concern you're looking for help with is enough to connect you with a clinician. If additional details are needed, we will let you know.

  • Our Intake Team works on a part-time basis. Completing the intake survey online is the fastest way to start the intake process. Intake phone consults book up quickly, which means they may not be available right away. We do try to have phone consult availability within a week. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

  • The intake process is not available in person. Intake can be conducted by phone or via the intake survey (available by using the above link).

  • Our rates range from $200 to $350 per session. Session rates vary, depending on clinician training and years of experience, as well as the nature of the therapy service.

  • Some clients wish to do individual sessions with one clinician as well as relationship/partner/couple therapy with a different clinician. We can certainly accommodate this request.

This can be easily discussed during an intake phone call. If you prefer to complete the online intake survey, please fill out two separate surveys, one for individual sessions, and another for relationship therapy. Please indicate on each survey that you are submitting for both individual and relationship therapy. This will help our Intake Team properly review and answer requests.

If you have questions, concerns, or are unsure how to proceed, please contact hello@ontariosextherapy.ca

  • It's up to you! It can be helpful to have all partners present to ensure each partner can express their perspectives in their own words, however, it is not necessary.

If you would like to have all partners present, you can add them to the call, or provide us with the phone number and she can add them to the call. Should you become clients, at that stage we will need the names and contact information for all partners to set up each of you in our online system.

  • After we receive your intake survey or complete the intake phone consult, we will reach out to you within three business days. You will receive an email or phone call from the Intake Coordinator either requesting additional information, or with a recommendation.

If it has been more than a few business days and you have not heard from us, please check your junk, spam, or Promotions folders, as our emails sometimes end up there! You can also reach out to hello@ontariosextherapy.ca to follow up.

  • Assuming fit with the clinic and a clinician who is currently available, matching with a clinician can occur within two-three business days after the completing the intake questionnaire or doing a phone intake.

If you then confirm that the clinician is a fit after reviewing the information provided by the Intake Coordinator, we will provide you with instructions on how to book sessions, which can usually be booked within a week, although this depends on the clinician’s availability.

  • All of our clinicians are licensed to provide psychotherapy to Ontario residents and are trained to provide sex therapy. If you are open to working with any therapist at the clinic, matching can be quick and easy, as our therapists have experience helping with many sex therapy concerns. If you have a preference for a specific clinician, it can be a bit more of a journey. Match with a therapist is not guaranteed as clinicians might specialize in treating some concerns and not others.

Availability of clinicians can change quickly, as the course of therapy varies from one client to the next. We have limited evening, weekend, and in-person spots, and they tend to fill up quickly. Clinician availability for sessions varies and is available on their respective profiles on our clinic website, www.ontariosextherapy.ca/team

We understand that fit between a client and clinician is important, and it is important to assess from both the client and therapist's perspective. The Intake Team does their best to determine fit with the clinic and with a therapist that will be a good match for you.

  • Yes! All the clinicians are trained to provide sex therapy and have experience with providing sex therapy. Clinicians have different areas of expertise and may not work with all areas of sex therapy.

All the clinicians are also licensed to provide the act of psychotherapy to people located in Ontario. They are registered with their respective colleges.

  • Due to provincial licensing restrictions, therapy services are generally provided only to those located in Ontario.

  • Our goal is for you to get the best care possible for what you are looking for help with. There will be some situations where sex therapy may not be a good fit at this time, or we do not have a therapist available to work with you. In these cases, we try to provide suggestions for appropriate resources.

  • We are unable to provide emergency or drop-in services. In the event of an emergency, please dial 911 or go to your nearest emergency centre. The Toronto Distress Line - 416-408-4357, or the Gerstein Crisis Centre - 416-929-5200, are good resources for emergency support.
